Who We Are

The Fence is published by Railing Media Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 12083516), registered office 2 Archer Street, London W1D 7AW (“we”, “us”, “The Fence”). You can reach us at info@the-fence.com.

These terms apply whenever you use the-fence.com or buy a subscription, back issue or other product from us. By using the site or placing an order you accept them. Last updated 13 June 2026.

Using the Site

You agree to use the site lawfully and not to disrupt its operation or security, attempt to circumvent the paywall, scrape content at scale, or republish our material without permission.

We may change, suspend or update the site, its content, pricing and features from time to time.

Your Account

We use passwordless sign-in (a one-time email link, or your Google account) — there is no password to remember. Keep access to your email account secure, as anyone with it can sign in as you.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the details on your account, including your delivery address.

Subscriptions & Auto-Renewal

Subscriptions are annual and renew automatically at the then-current price using your saved payment method, until you cancel. We’ll always show the price and billing frequency before you pay. Payment is taken securely by Stripe.

The access you receive depends on your plan: Digital and Print & Digital unlock the full website; Print delivers the magazine in the post. We’ll give you reasonable notice by email before any price change takes effect, so you can cancel if you don’t wish to continue.

Moving from print to digital: if we stop producing the print edition, we may transfer Print and Print & Digital subscribers to a digital subscription for the remainder of their current term, giving you reasonable notice by email. If you’d rather not continue on a digital subscription, you can cancel and we’ll refund the unused portion of what you’ve paid.

Print Delivery

Print subscriptions are posted quarterly to the delivery address on your subscription. Please keep it up to date in your account — we can’t replace issues sent to an out-of-date address free of charge.

If an issue arrives damaged or doesn’t arrive, email info@the-fence.com and we’ll put it right.

Cancellation & Refunds

You can cancel auto-renewal at any time from your account, which stops future charges. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

14-day cooling-off (UK/EU consumers): you may cancel a new subscription within 14 days of purchase for a refund. If you ask us to start digital access immediately and then cancel within the 14 days, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the access you’ve had. Back issues and merchandise can be returned within 14 days of delivery if unused and in resalable condition.

This does not affect your statutory rights. For any refund, contact info@the-fence.com.

Gift Subscriptions

Gift subscriptions run for one year and do not auto-renew. At checkout you provide the recipient’s name and email (and delivery address for print gifts); we use those details only to fulfil and notify the gift.

Satire, Parody & Editorial Content

The Fence is a satirical magazine. Much of our content is parody, satire and comment, and is intended to be read as such. Names, quotations and scenarios may be used satirically and should not always be taken as statements of fact.

Opinions expressed are those of the authors. If you believe something we’ve published is factually inaccurate and concerns you, please contact info@the-fence.com and we’ll consider it promptly.

Intellectual Property

All content on the site and in the magazine — writing, illustration, photography, design and the marks “The Fence” — belongs to us or our contributors and licensors, and is protected by copyright. You may read and share links freely, but may not reproduce, resell or republish our content without prior written permission.

Reader Submissions & Pitches

If you send us a pitch or submission you confirm it’s your own work and that we may read and consider it. You keep the copyright in your work; if we commission and publish it, the specific terms (including payment) are agreed separately. Please don’t send confidential material you don’t want us to hold.

Disclaimers & Liability

We provide the site in good faith but can’t guarantee it will always be available or error-free. To the extent permitted by law, we’re not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud), or affects the statutory rights of consumers.

Governing Law & Changes

These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England & Wales. We may update these terms from time to time; the version on this page is the current one, and material changes affecting subscribers will be notified by email.
